Join us at the Morris Graves Museum of Art on Sunday, January 5th at 2:00pm for a special Art Talk with The Humboldt Open Air Watercolor Painters! Jim McVicker, Paul Rickard, Jody Bryan, Steve Porter and Ken Jarvela will talk about their current exhibition, Through Humboldt Fog: Atmospheric Watercolors of the North Coast Landscape, their current bodies of work, and share stories of their experiences working together.

Through Humboldt Fog: Atmospheric Watercolors of the North Coast Landscape is a large body of work painted by 5 Humboldt County painters, each with their own approach to watercolor painting. This exhibition includes works painted as recent as last month with some going back a few years. This exhibition gives the viewer 5 diverse views of the county we all love as well as one painters work from the Mt. Shasta area. All the works were painted on site or ‘plein air’.

“Each of us came to art in different ways, for me it was an introduction from an artist friend and my first encounter with the great paintings of the French Impressionists. Everything grew out of that encounter back when I was 21. That’s where my inspiration started, as well as already being in love with the outdoors and nature. I credit that to my parents and all the travel and visits to state and national parks growing up.”
-Jim McVicker

This month’s Art Talk is a perfect chance to view a body of work by painters that have spent years in the field studying, observing and painting the landscape. There are so many scenes people will recognize and appreciate as well as have the chance to see how each artist interprets the Humboldt land and seascape in their own way, through light, color, value, shape and atmosphere.
